EU Campaign "Antibiotic Awareness Day in Hospitals"

HOPE joins the European Antibiotic Awareness Day 2010 campaign, taking place on 18 November. This year, the European Antibiotic Awareness Day will focus on hospitals. Its objective is to support efforts at national level to reduce unnecessary antibiotic use in hospitals through the development and dissemination of educational materials promoting prudent antibiotic use.

The Antibiotic Awareness Day is an annual European public health to raise awareness about the threat to public health of antibiotic resistance and prudent antibiotic use. The latest data confirms that across the European Union, the number of patients infected by resistant bacteria is increasing and that antibiotic resistance is a major threat to public health. Prudent use of antibiotics can help stop resistant bacteria from developing and help keep antibiotics effective for the use of future generations.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control is providing the campaign communication materials, which provide a common visual identity and content to the campaigns across the EU Member States and help to make the messages more recognisable and consistent, thus more memorable.

Global eHealth Forum

Healthcare systems all over the world are facing very similar challenges: demographic shifts, the impact of globalization and an increased burden of chronic diseases and expensive treatments, to mention some of the most important ones.

The Global eHealth Forum, which took place on 25-26 October 2010 in Hamburg, addressed these challenges.

The primary aim of the conference was to provide a cross-sector forum for approximately 200 representatives from hospitals and clinics, governments, health insurance organisations, service providers and the media. Policymakers, users, suppliers and implementation managers had the opportunity to exchange views and experiences and to discuss the requirements of a significant contribution of e-health for efficient, sustainable healthcare delivery. In the context, focus topics were interconnectivity, interoperability and standardization as well as quality management and process optimization.
