European Leadership Summit on Chronic Care:
Global best practices in implementing chronic care programmes

HOPE is now a partner of The European Leadership Summit on Chronic Care, a topic of relevance, in particular in the context of the topic of the HOPE Exchange Programme 2008.

Chronic diseases and long term conditions can represent up to 70% of a country's total health expenditure. These costs are even higher when chronic conditions are poorly managed. With aging populations and an increasing number of chronic patients, health systems worldwide are embracing chronic care as one of the most promising opportunities to improve clinical and financial outcomes.

Following the notable success of the World Health Care Congress Europe, The European Leadership Summit on Chronic Care is the forum where government and industry leaders share successful initiatives and global best practices in the implementation of chronic disease management programmes.

The event was organized under the high patronage of the European Commission and convenes senior executives from all the key organisations advancing chronic care in Europe including providers, payers, suppliers, customers, policy-makers and health officials.

European Conference: Cross-border territories: day-to-day Europe

HOPE has co-organised with the Mission Opérationnelle Transfrontalière (MOT) a major European conference on the political and operational issues involved in cross-border cooperation. More than 800 persons came from all European borders to participate in the European conference organised in Lille. The objective was to discuss the political and operational issues of cross-border cooperation and show that a Europe close to its citizens is on the move in the cross-border territories.

The 12 workshops provided opportunities for topic-by-topic highlighting of issues, projects, good practices, etc., leading to concrete proposals in the form of recommendations, which will be collected early in 2008 in a white paper addressed to national and European institutions.

The two plenary panel discussions showed that cross-border territories meet real needs, are an effective means of boosting Europe and must receive greater support from national and European authorities. The proceedings will be available by early 2008.
