Activities

HOPE promotes improvements in the health of citizens throughout Europe, fostering efficiency, effectiveness and humanity in the organisation and operation of hospital and healthcare services.

Two major goals have been set up in HOPE since its creation: to develop and maintain information and to advise members. HOPE has then been and is still involved in numerous comparative, exchange and dissemination activities: organisation of care activities; economic and financing issues; human resources; organisation of health systems...

Pioneer in the field of hospital patients' rights, HOPE has developed a major focus on quality and patient safety, at research (MARQuIS, DUQuE) and development level (SIMPaTIE, EUNetPaS).

It emphasizes also the role of hospital and healthcare services as public health actor: Health Promoting Hospitals, Patient Safety consortium, European Nutrition for Health Alliance, Green Hospitals…

But HOPE is also involved in the European Union decision making process. When HOPE was created health issues had a limited coverage in the European Community. With the development of the internal market, the direct as well as indirect influence of EU legislation on hospitals and healthcare services dramatically increased.

The scope of influence ranges from human resources issues (working time, safety, mutual recognition), pharmaceuticals (pharmacovigilance, information), medical devices, information technologies, tissues, cells, blood, organs, etc. It is then reflected in HOPE activities.
