Green hospitals

Following a 2009 Board of Governors’ decision, HOPE has been investigating the influence of environment policy on hospitals and good practices in energy performances in hospitals.

This work was done with the help of a trainee from Maastricht University, Ms. Rieke Schulz. The identification of good practices among hospitals was done with the help of HOPE Liaison Officers, looking more precisely on improvement of energy efficiency and renewable resources. A selection and presentation of 12 good practices was made.

The work was based on a questionnaire and was supplemented by in-depth interviews with selected contacts. The topics of questionnaire and interviews were: nature of actions taken, results of actions, motivation behind actions, (missing) incentives from local, national, EU policy.
