Cross-border co-operation

Cross-border co-operation in the health sector has a long tradition in the European Union. A great number and variety of health-relevant projects have been developed.

Co-operation in border areas has a positive impact on patients, providers, those who pay for health insurance and the whole healthcare system.

The areas of co-operation are very diverse, involving local resources with the aim of better serving the needs of the local community, for example, emergencies, care, telemedicine, sharing of equipment, research, human resources, networking/sharing practice, funding or common structures.

HOPE has worked in many ways to identify and to promote those activities. These projects bring with them a range of experiences and knowledge on cross-border co-operation from which other projects could benefit.

HOPE has then developed activities in this field to value them. This was done first of all through a mapping exercise and finally by the organization of conferences, then by joining the European projects EUREGIO I and II.
